Lighting

Terrarium lighting is not just about being able to see the animal well. For many reptiles, light is an important part of a healthy life — it helps them tell day from night and supports natural behaviour, activity, feeding and breeding. For diurnal species, correct UVB radiation is also essential, allowing animals to produce vitamin D3 and properly use calcium. When choosing lighting you therefore need to consider not only the bulb's wattage, but also the species, terrarium size, distance from the source and lighting duration.
